1. What types of positions do your recruiters work on?
Our most common searches are for sales reps and for upper management, because these are the types of openings our clients most often encounter. Occasionally, our clients will need a marketing manager or a plant manager, though. We will take on a variety of searches, provided we feel we would benefit our client. If we feel a search is not a fit for our company or that our client would be best served by another agency or source, we’ll tell them.
2. What is your fee structure?
Our fee structure depends upon the type of service or search that our clients choose. Fees for contingent searches are typically a percentage of the candidate’s first year’s expected compensation. Building Gurus will listen to your specific needs and will help to set a structure that will work for your company. To get more information about types of searches and relative fees, please contact us.
3. Where are you located?
Building Gurus is located in Fargo, North Dakota, right in the heart of the Midwest. We enjoy the city and feel we are in a location that best serves our company. Our clients, however, are located throughout the United States and Canada. We help by listening well to their specific needs, culture, expectations, and by tailoring each search to each client.
4. Do you only work on searches in North Dakota?
No! In fact, we rarely do local searches. Building Gurus works with clients in the building and building products industries all over the United States and occasionally in Canada.
5. What types of searches don’t you work on?
We do not provide our clients with laborers, contract, or temporary candidates. We also don’t really like IT or Engineering searches.
6. How can you help us from North Dakota?
As a company, we invest in a wide array of technology that helps us to dig deeper and more intensely than most hiring managers or decision-makers have time to do. We are also old-fashioned and pick up the telephone to locate individuals and to build lasting and beneficial relationships; again, something that our busy clients do not have time to accomplish.
7. How long have you been in business?
Rikka has been recruiting exclusively in the building products industry since 2001. Our company incorporated in August of 2003, and has been growing in size and in client base ever since. We reorganized our business in 2008 in response to the changing economy in the building industry. We feel this reorganization has positioned us to thrive in the downturn and allow us to better serve our clients.
8. How long does a search take?
Unfortunately, this question is not easily answered. Of course, we would like all searches to close with all parties completely satisfied in days…but as with most things, many factors come into play that can make or break a search’s timeframe; compensation, location, requirements, re-location factors, hiring manager’s availability, etc.
An ideal quick search has several distinguishing characteristics:
- A sense of urgency from the client
- A competitive compensation structure
- Realistic expectations
- Prompt and helpful communication from the hiring manager
- The overall desire to locate and hire the best possible candidate
- Working as a team with the recruiter
There are also many factors that can prolong searches:
- Poor communication or lack of feedback from busy hiring managers
- A compensation structure that is too low or that isn't competitive in the current market
- Reputation issues that the company or manager may have in the market
- A job description that gets changed mid-stream
- A lack of urgency to fill the position.
If you'd like to quickly and seamlessly hire the strongest and most qualified candidates through Building Gurus, please be ready to work with your recruiter. She will definitely work hard for you.
9. What if we hire a candidate from Building Gurus and the candidate resigns or gets terminated?

This placement guarantee applies only to clients who have made timely payments. Fee due dates are set forth in our contract.
10. When are your fees due?
Our fee due dates are set forth in our contract to allow clients to review the terms prior to agreeing to work with Building Gurus. If you would like to review a contract or if you have questions
