1. How much do I have to pay you in order to be a Building Gurus candidate?

A. NOTHING! Building Gurus does not charge job seekers any fees related to our openings or the
placement process. Building Gurus secures agreements with companies that are looking to hire and
our clients pay all fees related to the search. FYI – It is illegal in many states for recruiters to charge
applicants to “find them a job” If you encounter a recruiter who wants you to pay a fee, we encourage you to do your research and find out if they are legit!

2. How many companies are you going to market me to?

A. Building Gurus does not operate as a candidate marketing firm, we only present your information to
clients we have contracts with and that you are a match for. We pride ourselves on making long-lasting
and meaningful matches between our clients and candidates. Building Gurus can only assure those
types of matches by spending time getting to know everyone on both sides of the table.

3. If you aren’t going to market me to a bunch of companies, why should I work with you?

A. Building Gurus may not market you all around town (or the country) but we don’t treat our candidates
like a commodity. We will take the time to get right to the heart of what you are looking for in your next
role. If that meshes with any of our clients, we will present you in the best light, provide all the necessary
tools and encouragement and be there with you throughout the interviewing/hiring process. We won’t
drop off the face of the planet – whether we have good or bad news, you will get to hear it straight from
us. We don’t mess around, we don’t sugar coat and we don’t give bad advice in order to earn a fee.

4. Ok, I like your style and I want to become a candidate! Now what?

A. Register via our website as a candidate. Submit a resume and as many details about your desired
role as possible. If you see a current opening that you are interested in, apply directly to it. If you are a
match to our openings or to our clients, we will be in touch. If nothing is a fit right now, we will keep your
profile in our database and will contact you as matches come our way.

5. I applied online but no jobs were a match. How do I find out about your new opportunities?

A. All openings are posted on our website, so feel free to check back frequently. In the future we will
be working on RSS feed and other notification applications. In the meantime, check out our Twitter,

Facebook and LinkedIn accounts – we post openings frequently on all of our social media accounts.
Lastly, stay in touch from time to time and keep your information up to date in our database.

6. What types of companies do you work with?

A. Building Gurus works with a variety of building products manufacturers, distributors and wholesalers.
We have large and small clients who make and sell a wide range of products. We do occasionally dip
into other branches of the building industry as well.

7. What kind of roles do you work on?

A. Again, we work on a wide variety of searches. Most frequently we work: Sales (Inside, Outside,
Retail, Showroom) and Management (Trainee, Sales, Branch, Operations, and Regional) roles. We have
also placed: Administrative, Marketing, Warehouse, Engineer, and Estimating roles.

8. After speaking with you, why didn’t I get to interview with your client?

A. Unfortunately, our business is such that we speak with literally thousands of people a year and place
a relatively small number of those contacts. Our clients all have very exacting criteria and we are bound
by their wants and needs. If you didn’t get to the next steps, it may mean your background, skills or
experience were not a match to our clients’ needs. It doesn’t mean you are not a viable candidate in the
future, just not a great fit at this point.

9. After you interviewed and presented me to the client, why didn’t I get an interview?

A. Building Gurus presents all of our candidates honestly and in the best light possible. Our clients
review resumes and our detailed write-up and determine from that who they want to interview. If a client
decided not to interview you, they may or may not provide feedback as to why. Whenever possible, we
attempt to provide feedback to our candidates.

10. How many candidates are in the mix on each job?

A. The number varies greatly. Most of our clients do their own sourcing as well use Building Gurus’
services and have internal candidates as well. Building Gurus works to present several qualified
candidates on each of our searches to best meet our client’s needs. While it may mean we are
representing some of the competition, we do not sabotage or play favorites. All candidates are treated
fairly and respectfully and confidentially to the utmost degree.

11. What makes a great candidate for Building Gurus?

A. Solid tenure, progressive responsibility, great performance, enthusiasm and the right mix of

experience are what our clients demand. Building Gurus works with candidates who are honest
and ethical. We do not continue working with people who miss appointments and interviews or lack
commitment. Our Rock Stars communicate with us regularly, keep Building Gurus in the loop regarding
their other opportunities and do not try to go outside of the system.

12. Why didn’t your client hire me?

A. Please keep in mind our clients want only the best of the best! In addition to the normal costs of
hiring and attrition, they pay a fee for candidates they hire. That means extra scrutiny for anyone we
submit. If you have tenure issues, have been unemployed for lengths of time or don’t have the exact type
of experience/background our client needs they are less likely to take a chance on you if you are coming
with an extra price tag attached.

None of this means you aren’t a great employee or that Building Gurus thinks badly of you! It merely
means we will have a much harder time “selling through” your background. We will put you in the best
possible light and work through snags in your background.

13. So, you are going to find me a job right?

A. Sadly, statistically Building Gurus will probably not find you a job. However, we want to be a part of
your search process. We encourage everyone to take charge and diversify. Do not limit yourself to any
one resource, including Building Gurus. Finding a local, reputable recruiting company to work with opens
many more doors to you. Job aggregator websites and networking social media outlets improve your
chances of seeing many more jobs than we have available.

A word of caution – be judicious on the jobs you apply for and the way you present yourself. Applying
to every job available or putting your name and information everywhere on the internet can turn hiring
companies off.

14. My background is less than stellar, what can I do to improve my chances of being hired?

A. Ask for some honest advice from people you trust about your resume and background. Fix the
biggest issues and have some patience.

**If you have been a job hopper, you need to find a company and stick it out – ideally working your way
up through various responsibilities and sticking around for more than 2 or 3 years.

**If you have been laid off repeatedly most companies will be more understanding, but you might want
to do a bit more research about your next company before you accept. Try to find someone inside that
can give you a real view of the company. Look at their financial performance if possible and try to find out their history.

**If you can’t find what you want in today’s market, having any job related to your industry is better than being unemployed for a long period of time. Look at taking a part time retail job, switching up from
manufacturing to distribution, becoming a manufacturers’ rep, etc. Don’t leave items off your resume
because you feel they don’t pertain. It looks better to be employed in any job than to not have worked for several months or years.

**If you have been fired, honesty is the best policy – don’t lie about it. However, you do need to walk the fine line of being honest and sharing too much. Be as positive as you can about the experience and don’t speak negatively about the company, co-workers or management. If you made a mistake, own up to it. If

you were truly unfairly terminated, you should be working on fighting it. If you aren’t, you probably need
to evaluate if you were really unfairly terminated.

**If you were laid-off, downsized or had your position eliminated, make sure you use the right terminology.
Most people think “let go” means you were fired. If you got a severance package or can draw un-
employment, you were not “let go”, fired or terminated. Using the wrong words can cost you a second
look.

15.

Unfortunately, in the world of third party recruiting some trainers actually train new recruiters to scour the websites of competitors to see if they list any client names.

If they do – those companies are then highly targeted by recruiters who are trying to “build a desk” which is like building a book of business in recruiting.  So, by listing our client names we expose them to a large number of unsolicited calls because it is known that they will pay recruiting fees.  To protect our business relationships we choose not to put their names or logos on our site.

However, if you are a client who is interested in working with us – we do have many clients that are happy to give us a reference – so just let us know.
