How to work effectively with a Recruiter
The most successful candidates know that three characteristics generate results when working with recruiters: communication, honesty, and respect. Without communication, there is no partnership with your recruiter. It's crucial to keep your recruiter posted on your search efforts in general, and provide prompt feedback following any interview he or she arranges for you. Sometimes just clarifying some information shared in the interview can make the difference in whether an offer is extended and accepted.
Honesty is likewise essential in your dealings with recruiters because they can only help if they know all the details. It is especially important to mention any other pending or actual employment offers. Recruiters respect candidates who are upfront in discussing the success of their job search. On the other hand, they have little regard for those who "use" them to obtain a better counter-offer.
You should also be sure in your own mind why you would leave your current job for a new one. Evaluate your own strengths, skill sets, and general worth. Share these reasons for change and then sell yourself to the recruiter so she or he can then authentically sell you to a company. In tune with this, make sure your resume says what you want it to say and truly represents you - without any inflations or little white lies. Recruiters assess personality and cultural fit to the same degree that they look for the necessary skills to perform the job. If you haven't been contacted for a particular position, it may not mean you aren't qualified for it. It simply means that someone else better fits the company's expectations.
Successful recruiters are busy professionals who work hard to make placements. Therefore they also appreciate candidates who are respectful. Respect the process and respect the clients. Don't go behind the recruiter's back - clients don't respect that. Ultimately, maintaining a good relationship with a recruiter isn't difficult if you follow these simple courtesies.
How we work
Here at Building Gurus, the hiring companies compensate us; therefore, we spend our time and effort locating a candidate that meets the specifications for an actual job-not on finding jobs for candidates. With this in mind, we suggest you work with a recruiter as part of your job search plan-not your exclusive source for interviews. However, when you receive a call from us, you can be sure that we have a particular job in mind for you.
Confidentiality plays an essential role in all we do at Building Gurus. We understand the importance of maintaining confidentiality throughout the search process. We are discreet in all our dealings with candidates, including obtaining new references. To our utmost ability, we will do nothing to jeopardize your current employment situation.
Testimonial:
Erin,
That's not a problem at all. Thank you so much for your reply to my resume even though you do
not have any available positions that would be a fit with my background. Please feel free to
keep my resume on file. I admire your professionalism. It is very refreshing to know that there
are still a few people in the world that conduct themselves with the utmost professionalism and
courtesy. Again thank you.
-Mac Sean
